LPV7: Why, Why, Why?

“Why, God/Great Spirit/Buddah/Goddess/Universal Divinity, WHY?”

Why do bad things happen to good people?  Efforts to answer this question are core to many belief systems and countless answers have been proposed.  I work through some and why they don’t fit into my own personal beliefs and propose my own, if incomplete, answers.
